Who We Are...

The Alcott Center for Cognitive Enhancement provides personalized, research-based, multi-sensory learning programs to help children of all ages and abilities reach their full academic potential. Headquartered in Richland, Michigan, we serve Kalamazoo, Portage, Battle Creek, Grand Rapids and the surrounding areas, and are a leading provider for children with:

  • Poor grades
  • Learning disabilities
  • Dyslexia
  • Central Auditory Processing Disorder (CAPD)
  • AD/HD
  • PDD-NOS / Autism / Asperger's
  • Sensory Integration Dysfunction
  • Speech and Language delays
  • Down Syndrome
  • History of ear infections
  • Other disorders which slow or otherwise hinder normal educational development

... And How We're Different

The Alcott Center for Cognitive Enhancement focuses on identifying and correcting the cause behind the symptom. Each child is evaluated using a series of evaluation tools, to determine areas of strength and to identify areas where support is needed.  Once the areas of need are determined, we custom-design a program specifically for your child using an array of research-based solutions. Every child is different, so we treat them all differently!  There is no one-size-fits-all treatment at The Alcott Center. Through this unique approach, we are better able to find the child's core needs... and meet them.

Cogmed Working Memory Training
Cogmed is a clinically proven home-based computer training program for children and adults who struggle with attention, comprehension and memory weakness.

The Listening Program
The Listening Program (TLP) is a unique auditory intervention method that builds upon decades of clinical research in several fields. TLP is a home-based program using psychoacoustically modified classical music CDs that train the brain to work more efficiently.

Samonas Auditory Intervention
The root cause of many childhood issues lies in the auditory system. Samonas Auditory Intervention trains the auditory system to work in concert with the brain by using a series of carefully designed classical music, voice and nature CDs, individually selected to meet the needs of your child. Samonas is a home-based program.

PACE
More than just tutoring, PACE (Processing and Cognitive Enhancement) is a 12 week, intensive training program that strengthens underlying cognitive skills and as a result, helps children become better learners. PACE trains the entire learning system, not just the surface skills.

Master the Code
Master the Code is a specialized "sound to code" reading and spelling program that develops underlying auditory processing skills. Students have averaged over four years of reading skill improvement in less than five months. MTC is designed to integrate with and build upon the skills learned through the PACE program.

Lindamood-Bell Processes
The Lindamood-Bell learning processes are recognized worldwide as among the most effective tools to better learning. A multi-sensory approach ensures that the needs of the whole child are being addressed, not just the symptoms of the learning disability or delay. There are two primary programs under this umbrella: Lindamood Phoneme Sequencing® and Nancibell® Visualizing and Verbalizing for Language Comprehension and Thinking® (V/V®).

Long Distance Services
The Alcott Center for Cognitive Enhancement is able to provide home-based intervention programs nationwide, statewide, and in the local area. Several of our programs do not require the child to come to our centers to receive therapy service. Programs can be implemented at home or in conjunction with weekly or bi-weekly phone consultations and support. We work with families across the country utilizing web-based programs and outlined home programming supported by our professional team. Please contact us for more information.
