The Alcott Center for Cognitive Enhancement is a TLP Certified Provider -
Bone Conduction.
This is the highest certification level that The Listening
Program issues.
The Listening Program® (TLP) is a unique auditory intervention program that combines decades of
clinical research in areas such as neurology, auditory processing, physiology,
psychoacoustics and music theory, and builds on the work of respected leaders
such as Alfred A. Tomatis, M.D., who helped identify the relationship between
sound frequencies and their effect on functions of the mind and body.
TLP uses "psychoacoustically modified classical music," carefully designed
and produced exclusively for The Listening Program. The recordings are created
using live musicians, and the compositions are arranged to take advantage of
different frequencies, tempo, and other factors to stimulate different parts of
the brain and different functions in the auditory processing system. This
enables the brain to better receive, process, store and utilize the information
presented to it through the varied sounds we encounter every day - in language,
music, and the environment.
TLP has four main treatment categories, each with its own concentration of
frequencies:
- Sensory Integration - helps with balance, coordination, motor skills,
right/left discrimination, sense of direction, and more.
- Speech and Language - helps with memory, attention, vocal control,
concentration, speech and language, and more.
- High Spectrum - helps with creativity, intuition, energy, auditory
cohesion, ideals, and more.
- Full Spectrum - comprises all frequencies, and provides an overall
"organizing" experience.
TLP is a home-based therapy program, and can
be done at any time of day, in the place where your child is most comfortable:
your home.
If your child has any of the following, TLP should be
considered:
- History of ear infections
- Developmental delays
- Speech and language problems
- Poor grades
- Sensory dysfunction
- Dyslexia
- Learning disabilities
- Stress or anxiety issues
- Central Auditory Processing Disorder
- Hearing loss
- AD/HD
- Sensory integration dysfunction
- PDD-NOS/Autism Spectrum Disorder
- Down Syndrome
- Cerebral Palsy
- Brain injury
Key Benefits
- Customized program focuses on the needs of the child.
- Relatively inexpensive compared to most sound treatments.
- The basic building blocks of auditory processing are trained using
fundamentals of music: frequency, volume & timing.
Did You Know?
The auditory system is more than just hearing! Consider the following:
- Leading the Sensory Team
- The auditory system connects to most major organs. It is like the
"captain" of the sensory team. It is the first system to function in
utero. When the auditory system is weak, it can affect the integration
of information being fed to the brain and the nervous system by the other
senses. Auditory processing problems can lead to academic, social and
emotional challenges.
- Listening and Learning
- Listening is active and conscious and has a significant impact on
learning. Inadequately developed listening skills can cause problems
with attention, memory, information processing, concentration, and other
skills necessary for effective learning.
- A Common Problem
- Auditory Processing problems are common in people with dyslexia,
learning disabilities, ADHD and autism spectrum disorders.
